Norwood has been making traditional timber gates for close to three decades, and our gates have been sent all over Australia. We make them from Australian hardwood and cypress, and they are built to last. Gates are available as a single or as a matching pair, and heavy-duty hinges are included in the cost of every gate.
These gates are a perfect addition to any Norwood post and rail fence, and every gate can be fitted with an electric opener sourced from your preferred electrical supplier.

Five Rail Spotted Gum
Our standard Traditional gate, made from Australian spotted gum.

Three-rail construction in heavier sections, built for entrances that get constant use.

Norwood does not stop at the standard three. If your entrance needs something different, we can customise a gate to suit. Custom gates are priced on application.

The 1200mm is our standard pedestrian size gate. We make in-between sizes as standard, so if you need a 1900mm or a 2000mm gate, just tell us the opening and we will make it to fit.
How the measurements work
Gates are named by the opening they fit, not by the gate itself. The gate is 50mm shorter than the listed size so it clears the posts and swings freely. A 2400mm gate measures 2350mm long, and your gate posts need to be set 2400mm apart. All standard gates are 1200mm high.

Electric openers
All our gates can be fitted with electric openers. We ask customers to source these from an electrical supplier, or we can point you in the right direction.
Installation
How to install your gate
1
Footings
Post holes should be a minimum of 400mm diameter and 1200mm deep. Concrete is recommended.

Set posts
Install posts using a level so they are the same height and stand true and vertical.

Drill gudgeons
Drill two 20mm holes at 990mm centres for the through-post gudgeons, with the bottom hole at least 130mm above driveway level.

Hang the gate
Place the gudgeons through the post and fix in position with the nuts and washers provided.

Every Norwood gate is supplied with heavy-duty hot-dip galvanised hardware, including hinges, gudgeons and a drop latch, ready to hang and built for Australian conditions.

Timber gate questions
Do you make custom gate sizes?
Yes. In addition to our standard openings we make in-between sizes, for example a 1900mm or 2000mm gate. Get in touch to discuss your opening.
Do your gates come with hardware ready to hang?
Yes. All gates include heavy-duty hinges in the price. All you need is gate posts. Drop latches are available to close manually-opening gates.
Can I fit an electric opener?
Yes. Our gates can be fitted with electric openers, which we ask customers to source from their preferred electrical supplier, or we can point you in the right direction.
Does the gate need maintenance?
Yes, like all outdoor timber, gates should be looked after with regular oiling. See our timber maintenance range.
Can I buy just one gate?
Yes. Gates are available individually or as a matched pair.
Can I see a gate in person?
Yes. We have a pedestrian gate set up at our Corio factory in Geelong, open to the public Monday to Friday.
